  1. PETA Kills Animals, So Of Course It Accepts Celebrity Hypocrisy

Comments Off on PETA Kills Animals, So Of Course It Accepts Celebrity Hypocrisy

PETA Kills AnimalsPeople for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) thinks animals are “people,” and therefore the group harasses people who eat and wear animal products and those who conduct lifesaving medical research on animals. But PETA has no qualms killing roughly 2,000 dogs and cats every year, even those that its staff classifies as “adorable” and “perfect,” as our Senior Research Analyst reminded readers of PETA’s hometown newspaper.

You might say PETA has a deadly habit of hypocrisy. And since PETA’s hypocrisy excuses the group’s own animal killing, it should not shock anybody that PETA’s celebrity endorsers are excused from PETA’s proscriptions against eating or using animal products.

The latest celebrity to strip for PETA while wearing animal products in his real life is rock musician Dave Navarro. While Navarro lent himself to PETA’s anti-fur and anti-cosmetics campaigns, a leather designer in Los Angeles is quite happy to promote that Navarro wears his stuff. Indeed, leather is the singer’s signature look, and apparently it’s the real McCoy.

It is a longstanding tradition for PETA endorsers to join the self-described “total press sluts” in advertisements while refusing to follow the PETA lifestyle. Pamela Anderson, who appeared in countless PETA ads, even opened an omnivorous restaurant in 2006. Given the chance, PETA would ban meat, cheese, and even dairy creamer (for the rest of us, at least).

However, some prominent entertainers see through PETA. Jennifer Lawrence of The Hunger Games fame said “Screw PETA” in a recent interview. By their deeds (if not their pin-ups), many PETA celebrities agree.

  2. Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance with PETA

Comments Off on Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance with PETA

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has been playing love games with celebrity activists for quite some time. While some have been diehard extremists for the wacky cause, others have not accommodated PETA’s demands.

Now the animal rights (not animal welfare) folks are calling music artist Lady Gaga a Judas for allegedly being as hypocritical as they are. After once hailing her as a hero after she told Ellen DeGeneres that she hated fur, PETA now thinks that she was just giving animal extremists her best poker face. The paparazzi have captured images of Gaga wearing several furs—that PETA assumes are real and not faux—and now PETA is upset. Dan Mathews, the group’s Senior Vice President, asks:

What happened? Are your stylists telling you that it’s fake, or are you a turncoat?

And it comes with a warning (or perhaps a threat), too: Mathews says Gaga may soon be a target just like Kim Kardashian, who was “flour-bombed” for wearing fur. Did PETA really think that Lady Gaga was firmly in their camp when one of her more famous fashion moves was a dress made out of real meat?

Lady Gaga has yet to respond, so it remains to be seen if she will be able to just dance her way out of this one. Considering the self-described “press sluts” at PETA are just trying to become a fame monster, we’re confident she won’t let the noise affect her style. We hope that Gaga and her fans realize that PETA should really look inward if they want to criticize. After all, they kill more than 95% of the animals that pass through their “pet shelter.” You can check out the proof at PetaKillsAnimals.com.

  3. Celebs Turning against PETA?

Comments Off on Celebs Turning against PETA?

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is famous for using celebrities (frequently in a state of undress) in its advertisements. And given the ability of these self-defined “complete press sluts” to shock the media into paying attention, you might think that America’s entertainment elite are all on board with PETA’s radical agenda.

However, in recent weeks we’ve seen celebrities starting to stand up to what former supporter Khloe Kardashian recently called PETA’s “lying bullies.” It’s not just a reality television phenomenon: The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence said in no uncertain terms: “Screw PETA.” Rap superstar Kanye West even taunts PETA his latest album.

PETA’s tactics are even costing the group allies. Khloe Kardashian’s remark was prompted by reports that a “flour-bomb” attack on her sister Kim was aided by the animal rights group; previously, she had appeared in PETA campaigns. Her decision is understandable; the flour bomber was reportedly a member of PETA whose sister is a high-ranking PETA official, and PETA has offered to pay the activist’s legal bills if charges are filed.

While Ms. Kardashian may have turned on PETA in large part due to family ties, we can think of many reasons that celebrities pressured by the animal rights fringe to join up shouldn’t. Beyond the hypocrisy of some prominent PETA supporters, there is the lethal hypocrisy of PETA itself. We’ll welcome any who see the light on this noxious activist group.

  4. Sorry, Ruby: PETA Killed Healthy Animals, Too

Comments Off on Sorry, Ruby: PETA Killed Healthy Animals, Too

Aussie model and PETA anti-fur campaigner Ruby Rose wrote today that she’s troubled by our investigation into People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ (PETA) animal-killing activities. Rose was "shocked" to find out that our accounting of PETA’s substantial slaughter of adoptable dogs and cats is accurate, but unfortunately she bought PETA’s spin that it only kills very sick and injured animals. The ever-so-slight problem with that rebuttal is that it doesn't square with the facts that emerged when two PETA employees were caught dumping dogs and cats in a North Carolina dumpster.

In 2007 two PETA employees went on trial in North Carolina for felony animal cruelty and littering (they were convicted of the latter). But it came out during trial that PETA killed healthy, adoptable, “adorable,” even “perfect” animals.

Those “adorable” and “perfect” quotes are from trial evidence: A PETA defendant’s notebook contained both those words as descriptions of the condition in which the animals PETA killed were obtained. Witnesses testified that they were told that PETA “shouldn’t have a problem at all finding homes” for dogs they handed over to PETA. Those dogs, of course, were killed. And PETA ignominiously tossed the bodies in a dumpster.

Skeptical? Look at the photo below and decide for yourself whether the animals PETA employees killed were on death’s door or perfectly adoptable. You can see more here [Warning: Images are graphic and disturbing]. As for Rose, she would be better off finding a trustworthy advocacy ally.

So, in light of this, here's what you can do. It turns out Ruby Rose fancies herself as a social media darling. Perhaps she heard from you on Twitter and Facebook, she might reconsider her position.

  5. Dr. Oz: Animal Rights Activist?

Comments Off on Dr. Oz: Animal Rights Activist?

Daytime television’s self-promoting “YOU Doc” Dr. Mehmet Oz entertained us Wednesday with his assault on meat and dairy, offering up his talk show's couch to a vegan activist group that twists medical research to claim non-tofu proteins come with major health risks.

In typical Oz fashion, he promised to tell his audience what they “need to avoid in order to avoid getting cancer and heart disease.” And who better to fill everybody in than Neal Barnard?

    Groan.

Barnard, for the unfamiliar, is president of the PETA-linked “Physicians Committee” for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), which gets most of its funding from a single wealthy animal-rights activist in Florida. Barnard, who has called cheese “dairy crack” and tried to sue milk companies for causing “pain and suffering” to lactose intolerant Americans, predictably railed against non-PETA-approved diets.

Oz promoted his guest’s agenda as “a different way of thinking about what you do in your day-to-day life.” Yes, we suppose that’s true. Barnard’s past claim that “to give a child animal products is a form of child abuse” is certainly, um… different. And Oz never told his audience that Barnard (a non-practicing psychiatrist) was once the president of the PETA Foundation—the organization that owns PETA’s office building and pays its salaries.

Oz helpfully suggests, “Don’t call it a diet.” And he’s right. Barnard’s advice is animal-rights ideology on a plate.

Eating nutrient-rich vegetables and fruits is a great idea, but so is eating nutrient-rich animal products. It’s difficult to swallow a stealthily masked, ideology-fueled prescription when it’s passed off as a cancer cure-all.

Has the good doctor (Oz, not Barnard) been fooled or is he a willing accomplice?
